Click hereEvery morning when I wake
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Before I get out of bed
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
While I get dressed
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Eating my Lucky Charms
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Brushing my teeth
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Putting on my makeup
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Doing my hair
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Getting I’m my car
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Looking in the mirror
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
During my drive
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Singing with the radio
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When I get to work
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
as my boss yells at me
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
On my lunch break
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Eating my salad
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
While life lets me down
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Before I clock out
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Getting in my car
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Heading to the bar
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When I see a cute guy
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
And I catch his eye
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
After I buy his drink
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When he sits next to me
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
While we both laugh
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When he invites me home
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
As we walk outside
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When he grabs my hair
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
And he threw me down
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
As he kicks my face
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
And he calls me a fake
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
As the hits keep coming
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
After he spits on me
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
And he finally leaves
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
While I cry and I scream
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
First responders on the scene
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
While the cop’s judging me
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
In the emergency department
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When they stitch my eye
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
On the cab ride home
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
After the driver says I lie
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Crying in the shower
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
When again I brush my teeth
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
And see I’m missing three
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
As I lay to go to sleep
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
All I can do is weep
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Whether I be in drag
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Or gay or bi or trans
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Too skinny or too tall
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
Too big or too small
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
If I walk or I crawl
I tell myself, you are beautiful.
So if this speaks to Y’all
You tell yourself, you are beautiful.
A little or not at all
You tell yourself, You are beautiful.
You are beautiful.
I love it! Very nice poem, you are a talented poem author!
I have a story about a "non-passing" trans, that I plan on publishing. I believe everybody deserves love and she meets a man of her dream despite not passing well :)
In a world filled with so much hate some of us become easy targets for those who do not really know much about love. This flow of positivity written here is a very potent reminder that we are all as beautiful as the things we put into our lives . . . the thoughts that make us who we truly are . . . the words we chose to say . . . the encouragement and acceptance we choose to offer others. Truly, it is those who make judgments to hate another living soul who are the ugly among us . . . and they are all too easy to spot. Thank you for the good words! May Love be your portion Ms Natalie!!!
Thank you very much. As guilty as I feel saying it, it's moving to hear I've struck a chord. Kind words like yours make the sharing all the easier. Again, thank you.
It’s rare that I tear up, and it’s even more rare that I find myself sobbing. Thank you for sharing such haunting shorthand of the soul.
Optimistic, pitiful, real, sad, scary, raw, then... positive. You are a beautiful and remarkable soul.
